Ironwood Academy Welcomes You To ...

Ironwood Academy Mission

We are a hybrid tutorial program that provides extensive, structured teaching support to parents who have chosen to homeschool their children. Ironwood is grounded on the conviction that parents are responsible for the content and quality of their children’s education, but recognizes that some parents need or desire robust support for educating their children.

Why "Ironwood"?

Ironwood trees grow in the Sonoran Desert providing shelter and nourishment for many of God’s creatures and plants in an incredibly harsh and challenging desert environment. The Ironwood tree provides a large canopy of shade and protection for those who rest under it as well as providing a strong foundation for growth with its deep root structure. These trees are among the longest-living. Although the Ironwood tree is one of the hardest woods, it can be carved and polished to make beautiful wooden sculptures. In the same way, we desire for Ironwood Academy to be a place of refuge where our children can thrive in an emotionally secure environment and grow as they are fashioned and polished into masterful works of art.

Ironwood Academy Values

We believe that having a loving and supportive family is the most important factor in determining a child’s success. We honor family time in balance with academic excellence. We also believe in the value of play, time for stillness and reflection, and time for extra-curricular interests.

We want to be an extension of a nurturing home environment by creating safe emotional connections that foster security. We want to help children build and sustain healthy relationships. Our watchwords are: kindness, respect for self and others, and joy!

We believe in hiring and empowering experienced and engaging teachers who are passionate about the subjects or grades that they teach. We demonstrate our commitment to them by paying them well and by providing a supportive environment that allows them to use their giftedness, unique personality, and knowledge to inspire and educate children.

We celebrate the individuality of every child and we recognize that not everyone learns in the same manner. Our job is to creatively connect to a student’s learning style, to meet them wherever they are on their growth path, and to help them continue their educational journey at their optimal pace.

We believe in the value of community and service to others. We encourage and demonstrate servant-leadership to use the unique talents that God has given to each of us.

We believe our faith in Christ and devotion to God should enhance the pursuit of academic excellence. Faith and intellect are not mutually exclusive. Instructing children to think clearly and to discern truth is a primary objective.
